Despite criticism, Andy Hanley of UK Anime Network praised the animation as 'visually eye-catching.' References DVD Talk's Kyle Mills gave the series more praise, noting that despite small criticism 'the 1st 11 episodes of the series are great.' He praised the story and setting but criticized the development of certain characters comparing them to 'flaws' Gurren Lagann made.
